After WWII, when the US and The Soviet Union entered the cold war, fears of a nuclear attack became very prominent and overwhelming. People took special precautions and prepared themselves in the case of an attack on the US.
The 1950's...In the fifties, people feared a nuclear attack my the Soviet Union. People built bomb shelters in their back yards, and had bomb threat drills in their schools. Though neither the US nor the Soviet Union dropped a bomb, the fear lingered well into the 1980's.

Today...People may not fear nuclear attacks from Russia today, but we do have a few fears of our own. Terrorist attacks, school shootings, and war just to name a few. Try going through airport security. Any idea why it takes so long to get through? Modern fears.
